Many times when a furnace or other heating system stops working, it’s because there have been underlying issues that were left alone for too long without being repaired. Small issues eventually get worse when not handled promptly and leave people stuck with a heating system that doesn’t function. Below are some signs to look out for to tell when your heating system needs to be repaired.
Unusual Noises
- If your heating system is banging, screeching, or sounding much louder than usual when it runs, it’s an indication that something is wrong. It could mean that there are loose parts or parts that are breaking down and need to be repaired.
Strange Smells - If you’re noticing a consistent burning smell, a chemical smell, or any other type of strange smell coming from your heating system or through your heating vents, get it checked out. It might mean that you have a leak or clog that needs to be repaired.
Increased Energy Bills - If your energy bills have been higher than normal, try to pay attention to how long your heating system is running. If your heating system isn’t functioning properly, it won’t heat your house as quickly, causing it to run longer, and therefore increasing your energy bills. When this happens, it’s definitely a sign that you need a repair.
Heat Blowing Out Isn’t As Warm - If the heat coming out from your vents doesn’t seem as warm anymore, then you’ll want to look into getting a repair. There’s probably something wrong with your blower motor or another component within your furnace.
